Man killed in shoot-out

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot and his firearm seized early yesterday morning by the police after he engaged the team in a gun battle.

The dead man is identified as Umroy Dyer, unemployed, of Howell Content, Clarendon.

Police reports indicated that an operation was being conducted at 5:45 a.m. in the community when the deceased fired shots at the lawmen after they entered a premises. The police returned fire and Dyer was hit. He was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The police said a Glock 9 mm pistol was seized. The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced a probe.
