The Jamaica Used Car Dealers Association (JUCDA) will be having its Annual General Meeting at the Wyndam Hotel, New Kingston, today at 5 p.m. On its agenda will be the election of a new president. The incumbent, Ian Lyn, says he will not be running for re-election "because of the total disregard by the Jamaican Government to our just demands as well as my upcoming overseas business demands", he said in a release. Lyn rose to office on a platform of change, a ticket that promised lobbying the government to allow five-year-old used cars into the island in an effort to revive a flagging sector. An initiative started by the previous administration to allow vehicles under four years old to come to these shores found footing in the Lyn administration. However, older vehicles which were the meat and bones of the lobby push are still denied entry. Lyn also forged links with Jamaica International Insurance Company (JIIC), Scotiabank and Hawkeye, which made cars easier to insure, own and secure. The current executive includes as Ian Lyn, president; Errol Brown, vice-president ; Charmaine Lee, secretary /treasurer; Gordon Baldie, Dwight Moore, Errol Rose and Garnett Reid as directors. |
