The Marleys, Stephen and Damian, came offering a musical treat. Capleton was energitic as ever and Spragga Benz kept a bright smile throughout the night, as the second annual Life Fest concert held Saturday at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre ended on a successful note. After losing his beloved son Carlton 'Carlyle' Grant Jr, almost two years ago to a fatal shooting by the police, Spragga Benz took a mature step when he decided to build a foundation that would benefit needy inner-city youths. The decision also came at a time when he was perhaps most distraught, so kudos to the veteran deejay. However, he insisted that he's a changed man on a mission to educate today's society. Spragga Benz also got the support from some of the biggest names in music, who produced fantastic performances in front of a jam-packed venue. Junior Gong was in his element all night. Prior to his first hit song, delivered in the form of Beautiful Girl, the smooth-talking reggae icon was greeted with deafening screams from patrons. While the audience, particularly the females, screamed on top of their voices, the popular rastafarian, whose lengthy dreadlocks was almost sweeping the floor, paused to remind them that "tonight's concept is about the preservation of life - member say if wi preserve the youths wi save life, so mi wah unnuh support the cause." The crowd was already getting their money's worth and when Junior Gong called on his brother Stephen, the atmosphere quickly turned frantic. The two paired perfectly to deliver songs like Exodus and Book Of Life. Spragga Benz needed to do little onstage, as fellow artistes Capleton, Assassin, I-Octane, Queen Ifrica, Jazmine Sullivan, Leo Bailey, Chino, Richie Spice, Bunny Wailer, Konshens, Richie Stephens, Alison Hinds and Peter Tosh's last son, Tosh-1, did a tremendous job in bringing great entertainment to the audience. Speaking with THE STAR after his third stint onstage, Spragga Benz said he was at a loss for words with the support given. "Mi feel good bout di thing, mi nah lie general. The support was phenomenal and am overwhelmed by it", he said. (See more coverage from Life Fest in THE STAR this week)
