Police probe alleged scammer's death

The police in St James are now probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a man said to be a major player in the popular lottery scam.

Nesta Rutherford of Belmont in the parish was killed on Monday during a drive-by shooting. Since his death, however, there have been different theories as to what could have sparked the incident.

Sources from the St James police told THE STAR that Rutherford was a very violent person and normally got into altercations with whomever angered him.

He was recently linked to two stabbing incidents, THE STAR learnt.

Consequently, investigators are now looking into the possibilities that the stabbing incidents as well as the lotto scam could be linked to his death.

According to police reports, about 9:00 p.m. Rutherford was among a group of men sitting outside his house when a car drove up.

The occupants of the car reportedly opened fire on the group.

Rutherford was shot and died on the spot.
