Man jailed for repeated offence |

A man who was taken before the court for possession of, and dealing in ganja will have to spend the next three months in jail after it was revealed that he was arrested and charged, just hours after being released from a similar charge. Junior Lee Shaw appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday. The court was told that on the day in question, Shaw was found with ganja weighing 0.9kg (2lb). He was arrested and charged. When the accused appeared in court, he admitted that he had indeed been in trouble with the law before. He even admitted that it had been for the same offence. What he failed to reveal, however, was that he was slapped with these charges the very day he was released after paying a fine for a similar charge. This information was given to the court by the investigating officer. After hearing this information, Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey immediately sentenced him to three months in jail. Upon hearing the sentence, the obviously shocked man, asked, "No fine, Your Honour?" He was quickly dismissed and carted off to the holding area. |
