A man was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday for stealing a woman's handbag.

He is Kevin Ward of Corporate Area address. He pleaded guilty with explanation to charges of possession of offensive weapon and robbery with aggravation.

Allegations are that the accused man rode up to the complainant on a bicycle and demanded her handbag but she refused. It is alleged that Ward then brandished a knife and stabbed at the woman to retrieve her bag.

Ward told the court that although he is guilty he was only trying to court the woman and did not want to hurt her.

He was remanded until February 12.
