A 58-year-old man has been taken into custody by the Spanish Town police for the carnal abuse of a 13-year-old girl.

THE STAR learnt that the man was arrested by the police about 10 a.m. yesterday after he travelled from another parish to give the teenager money for her lunch.

It is alleged that the child's family had observed that she was getting expensive gifts and spending more money than they had given her.

As a result, she was questioned and it is alleged that she eventually told them of a sexual affair with the accused.

The investigators were contacted and the man held. His name is being withheld by the police.

The accused is expected to face the Spanish Town Resident Magis-trate's Court next week.
