Mayor Hinds says ...$10 million for police fund |

The occasion was a courtesy call by the acting commissioner during an appreciation party for the Portmore police by Mayor Hinds at the St Catherine South divisional headquarters in Greater Portmore last Saturday. Mayor of Portmore, Keith Hinds, declared that he's planning to acquire $10 million to kick-start a revolving scheme which will benefit police personnel in the St Catherine South Police Division. "What I Intend to do before I demit office is to at least leave a legacy, I want to raise $10 million to put in a revolving fund that it can be administered by the division for its men and women of the St Catherine South Police Division. We have a lot of hard-working policemen and women in the force, and we need to start recognising them," Mayor Hinds said to rapturous applause from officers at hand. emphasis on Portmore Mayor Hinds made this declaration during a appreciation party for members of the St Catherine South police last Saturday evening. He gave gifts to police officers from various ranks in the St Catherine South Police Division with emphasis on Portmore. Mayor Hinds explained to THE PORTMORE STAR that the source of the funds will come from contributions from corporate Jamaica, and sales from bingos, raffles and other fund-raisers he plans to put on in aid of the cops. "When this $10 million is raised, then It will be placed in a financial institution in an interest-bearing account. After two years, the interest will be handed over to the division head and officers from the Portmore police can draw to do their personal business such as to buy a car or real estate." According to Hinds, the funds will be available free of cost, and drawings will be done every six months. Those cops, he said, had gone beyond the call of duty to rid the Sunshine City of criminal elements. The event was also attended by acting Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington, who paid a courtesy call on the St Catherine South police divisional headquarters. |
