Hubby jailed for drugs, wife freed |

A married couple experienced different fates in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday when the husband was sentenced to three months for attempting to export ganja. The accused persons, Marvin Bailey and Laura McLaren Bailey, are of a New York address. Both were charged with possession of, dealing in, and taking steps to export ganja. The accused man pleaded guilty to the charges. He told the court that he used the drug to relieve the pain he felt in his testicles and said it worked. sentences Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey sentenced Mr Bailey to three months. His wife was freed of the charges. He was also fined $3,100, or three months in jail for possession; $6,200, or three months for dealing; and, $9,300, or three months for taking steps to export ganja. Mrs Bailey had previously pleaded not guilty and said she was unaware of the drug being in her suitcase. The investigating officer told the court that Mr Bailey had told her that he was the one who put the drug in her luggage. She said the woman was not aware of him committing this act. Allegations are they were stopped
during a routine spot check and their
luggage was searched. The search revealed 885-grams (1lb,14oz) of ganja in each suitcase. Both were destined for New York. |
