LEG BROKEN FOR $500 GAS

A man who borrowed his house mate's car to run an errand but failed to replenish the over $500 worth of gas the drive reportedly used up, received a fine beating, resulting in him being admitted in hospital with a broken leg, THE WEEKEND STAR learnt.

The man, who was released from the University Hospital earlier this week, declined to speak about the situation. However, a neighbour filled this newspaper in on the details.

The source said it was three Fridays ago that the 30-year-old man received the unforgettable thrashing.

"He (the victim) used the vehicle to drop off someone in Negril, (Westmoreland) and while he was there an argument developed between him and his house mate (the owner of the car)," the source said. "When he got to the house the argument got heatedÉthey were fighting over $500 that he (victim) should have replenished but failed toÉthen they started wrestling."

The neighbour said the owner of the car "jumped" onto one of the man's leg, snapping it on impact. A crowbar and a hammer were allegedly swung at the injured man but he managed to escape, making his way down to the garage where he bellowed out for help in pain and desperation.

"That's when some neighbours came to his rescue," the source said.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that the injured man was rushed to hospital where he was admitted on ward 17.

An inspector from the St Andrew Central police said he was aware of the report but would not be divulging any information. "Mi know bout it but mi nah tell yuh nuttinÉmi a tell yuh straight up," he told THE WEEKEND STAR . Attempts to ascertain if the suspect was apprehended were unsuccessful.
