Mother abandoned new-born in bag

A mother is now in police custody after she was charged with child abandonment.

Reports from the Spanish Town Police are about 8:00 am yesterday, the woman gave birth to a baby boy and moments later she placed the new-born in a bag.

The baby was placed near the Sydenham Health Centre along Federal Road, St Catherine.

The police started its investigations which led them to Willowdene and the mother was held.

Up to press time the mother was still under police guard at the Spanish Town Hospital.

Investigators told The Star that the woman will be facing the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court next week.

Meanwhile her condition is said to be stable.
