Alleged pig thief in custody

A man who was among a group that was accused of stealing a pig from a farm along the Municipal Boulevard in Portmore, St Catherine, is now in police custody.

Police reports are that about 1:30 p.m. yesterday a farmer saw a white pick-up drive onto his farm and the occupants alighted and entered the pen and stole the animal.

He contacted the Caymanas police and started to trail the vehicle. It was eventually intercepted by the police.

Some of the occupants of the vehicle escaped, however, the police held the man who is now in custody. His name has not been released by the police.

The pig is estimated to value $70,000 and it was one of eight to have been stolen from the farm in a one-week period.
