Two elderly men from different sections of the island were killed in fires that destroyed their homes in separate incidents, just hours apart. George Passley, an 84-year-old resident of Joy Spring, Comfort Castle, Portland was the first victim. He died in a fire at his home on Sunday night. The dead man has been identified as Derrick Brown. Brown received third degree burns and was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to the hospital. Reporting are that neighbours saw fire coming from Brown's house and called the fire brigade. One unit from the Falmouth Fire Department responded and put out the blaze. Brown was later found suffering from severe burns and was taken to the Falmouth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Falmouth Police are investigating.
