Two elderly men killed by fire

Two elderly men from different sections of the island were killed in fires that destroyed their homes in separate incidents, just hours apart.

George Passley, an 84-year-old resident of Joy Spring, Comfort Castle, Portland was the first victim. He died in a fire at his home on Sunday night.

Reports are that about 7:30 p.m., neighbours saw fire coming from Passley's house and called the fire brigade. The unit was however, unable to get to Passley's remote location and he was burnt to death. The police were called and Passley's remains were removed to the morgue.

The Mill Bank police are investigating.

Hours later, about 4 a.m. yesterday, a 65-year-old man died at his home in Daniel Town, Trelawny.

The dead man has been identified as Derrick Brown. Brown received third degree burns and was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to the hospital.

Reporting are that neighbours saw fire coming from Brown's house and called the fire brigade.

One unit from the Falmouth Fire Department responded and put out the blaze.

Brown was later found suffering from severe burns and was taken to the Falmouth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Falmouth Police are investigating.
