In the midst of dancehall music released this year, Greensleeves' 'The Biggest Reggae One-Drop Anthems of 2009' captures some of the more interesting one-drop singles released this year.

A 17-track album, with songs from newcomers to established acts such as Luciano and Sizzla, The Biggest Reggae One-Drop Anthems of 2009 is a conscious yet varied compilation.

Starting off with Genesis from Lutan Fyah, the CD continues on a smooth mellow beat that's a calming experience but that doesn't inspire one to fall asleep.

Rising Stars winner Romain Virgo represents for the recently deceased Alton Ellis with a medley of his popular songs with Alton's Medley. It was a fitting medley as it was Ellis' songs that helped Virgo establish his name throughout the competition. And Virgo does the veteran justice with his powerful voice, belting out old favourites.

Another cover on the album is Lukie D and M'Lonie's reggae rendition of Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown's No Air. Not as powerful as the original, the song is still worth a listen.

Italian singer Alborosie also represents well with Humbleness, whereas Vibes from Glen Washington is a heartfelt, inspiring song that speaks to faith.

Another song to inspire the youths comes from Sizzla with Gwaan Bear, whereas Luciano cautions to Be Aware, singing "nutten nuh wrong wid di world, a di people weh in it... just take time out to pray."

Da'Ville's melodious voice also stands out with Missing You Right Now, a touching love song.

Overall The Biggest Reggae One-Drop Anthems 2009 is a good listen for reggae fans and also for Jamaican music fans who want a break from dancehall.
