Konshens - Contributed Stage Name: Konshens Real Name: Garfield Spence Birth Month: January How did you get started in the business? Konshens: By accident, mi get a number one song in Japan wid my brother Delus. We're part of a duo called Sojah and did like 10,000 demos and in 2005 we got that number one song and went on a month-long tour to Japan and released an album in 2006. What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet? Konshens: My greatest challenge has been accepting the fact that half of the business is hypocrites and you either have to work wid dem or work around dem. What have you been up to lately? Konshens: Right now besides shows overseas and locally I'm about to shoot a video for a song with a new artiste, Dario, called Hooked On You. It's a song that symbolises the start of the first of many songs for the ladies. I'm also working on my bigger brother Delus' career with songs like True Love, Dem Nuh Like We and a new song, Mek Dem Sorry. I'm also promoting my singles like The Realest Song, Out of Di Ghetto, Mama Proud and my song, Do Di Ting,on the Gogo Club rhythm. I'm also starting my own label called Sub-Konshus Music. Do you look up to any specific artiste and why? Konshens: Beres (Hammond) because of the description of his lyrics. You a listen him song and is like you gone where he takes you and feel what he's singing about. Also my brother Delus and Tarrus Riley. Are you happy with the way things are going for your musical career right now? Konshens: Yeah! Mi nuh fussy. Mi happy because mi find myself in a spot where mi nah search for acceptance, most of the business is a smokescreen and I put myself forward now rather than trying to be someone searching for acceptance. Do you have any advice for young artistes coming up? Konshens: Yeah! First ting, from yuh start, learn di business and listen to advice. You'll get advice but is up to you to listen and analyse for yourself. Where do you see yourself in the future? Konshens: Basically doing di same ting like now but reaching a much wider audience. To continue to affect people's lives 'cause it's one of the greatest experiences to have someone come to you and sey dat song is about my life. -Krista Henry
