New court date for Foota

Cassava Piece, St Andrew-based selector Oneil Thompson, popularly known as Foota Hype, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday on assault charges.

The selector's case was, however, transferred to the Gun Court and his bail extended. He was charged with assault at common law.

The allegations are that on September 9 about 2:45 p.m., the complainant was walking when a white Nissan motor car drove up and a gun was pointed in his face by a man while he was searched by the accused. It is alleged that the complainant was frightened by the scenario.

The court heard that further investigations into the matter revealed that the gun used in the incident was a licensed firearm belonging to a police officer.

Thompson, in his defence, told the court that he was in the car with the officer when they saw the complainant. According to Thompson, his partner who was involved in the act thought the complainant looked suspicious and they decided to stop and search him.

The selector will return to court on September 25.
