A police constable attached to the Central Village Police Station, in St Catherine South, was shot and injured by gunmen at Big Lane, Central Village, Friday night.

Information received by the CCN is that between 11:35 and 11:55 p.m., the constable was among a team that was on foot patrol in Big Lane. On reaching a section of the road the team encountered a group of men armed with high-powered weapons.

The gunmen opened fire at the lawmen and during an ensuing gun battle, shot and injured the constable. Reinforcement was called in and the injured lawman was taken to hospital where he is admitted in stable condition. The Central Village Police are investigating.
