Choir members fight in church |

Police had to be called to a recently established church in Red Hills, St Andrew, after members of the youth choir got into a brawl. Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that a group of 19-year-old men got into a dispute earlier this week allegedly over a female choir member. The Area Five police confirmed the incident but said no arrest was made. "On Monday evening, four members of the church got into a fight during choir practice. After speaking with them, it was found that the fight started over some argument about a girl," Corporal Horace Greenwood said. The corporal was part of the police team which responded to the calls of a disturbance at the church. He said the four men received injuries during the fight. One was left nursing a broken nose while another lost a tooth. The other two had bruises and swellings to their faces. THE WEEKEND STAR was told that the fracas began around 6:30 p.m. when one of the men received a call from the 18-year-old girl alleged to be at the centre of the altercation. She is said to have called and acknowledged that she would be late for the choir practice which began some half and hour earlier. The recipient of the call then announced it to the other members. Further reports are that the boyfriend of the girl became enraged and questioned why he was not the one who had received the call. An argument developed and the angry boyfriend reportedly attacked the other man and punched him in the face. Both men traded fists before two other male choir members intervened, not to part the fight but to help their friend, turning the fight into a tag-team match, THE WEEKEND STAR was further told. "...It was pretty much a two against two fight," Corporal Greenwood explained. The police were alerted and took the injured men to hospital. When THE WEEKEND STAR spoke with the pastor of the church yesterday, he said he was not able to comment on the matter as he was overseas when it occurred. Meanwhile, the police said that charges could possibly be laid on the men. |
