UWI worker on fraud charge

A housing officer employed to the University of the West Indies appeared in court yesterday to answer to charges of fraudulent conversion, obtaining money by false pretence and embezzlement.

The accused man is Cary Munez. Munez appeared before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The court was told that Munez's job as a housing officer was to liaise and make arrangement with prospective tenants. He was not authorise to collect money. It is alleged, however, that on eight occasions he collected $30,000 from prospective tenants. It is further alleged that he used this money for his personal benefit.

The matter will return to court on July 10 for mention.
