No-order in assault case

A woman accused of assaulting her spouse told the court that she was only trying to talk to the complainant about his drinking habits when things got violent.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Kareen Daley.

Daley appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday and pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge.

She told the court that on the day of the incident, she was trying to talk to the complainant about his drinking habits. She said the complainant drinks more than a reasonable amount per day and becomes violent when he does.

She said while she was talking to the complainant, he became aggressive and a fight developed. She used a small pocketknife to stick him on the hands so he would release her.

The complainant, when given a chance to speak, said he did not wish to proceed with the matter. A no-order was made and Daley was allowed to go.
