A Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor is in the custody of the Lucea police following the death of his five-year-old son on Tuesday.

Easton Edwards, councillor for the Lucea division, is being held until the results of a post-mortem proves how his son died.

Police reports are that Lennon Edwards died after he was left sleeping in his parents' car after the boy had gone along with his parents to a graduation ceremony.

It is said that about 2 p.m. his father went to move the vehicle after it was announced that it was blocking another vehicle.

It was then discovered that the boy was not moving and he was rushed to the Noel Holmes Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
