A mother is now before the court after she and her son were accused of forcing a 15-year-old girl to have an abortion after she became pregnant for him.

The allegations were revealed by the investigating officer in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The teenager and the woman's son are alleged to have been in a relationship. It is further said that the teen became pregnant for the young man.

The teen's pregnancy is said to have been told to the mother who failed to report the matter to the relevant authorities. The court was told that the son later found out the teen intended to keep her pregnancy. But the accused persons would have none of that and the child was taken to a doctor where the pregnancy was terminated.

The police were informed of the matter after relatives of the teenager became aware of what took place. An investigation was launched and the son was charged with carnal abuse. The mother was charged with aiding and abetting carnal abuse.

When the matter came up before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar Green both accused persons pleaded not guilty. They were granted bail in the sum of $100,000 each to reappear in court September 7.
