Mr Vegas has hit the number one spot on the BBC 1 Xtra dancehall chart this weekwith his smash hit, 'I Am Blessed', toppling Busy Signal's 'Praise and Worship' and outshining Laden's 'Time To Shine'.

In the meantime, the single continues to vault up local charts, hovering at number three on the Jamaica Music Countdown charts and is in the number five spot on the HYPE TV charts.

"When the song start pick up on those reggae overseas charts, then you know it is a hit tune. There is no doubt about the appeal and popularity of the song... it's a genuine hit. I performed it in Brooklyn over the weekend and I passed through Squeeze'sRock the Mic show on Monday, and the song created a big vibe with the people, it connect big time," Vegas said

new manager

Vegas flirted briefly with the idea of retirement last year, but has revamped his management structure and is ready to go at it again. He has hired a new manager, Khool head honcho Ray Alexander. Vegas was formerly managed by Irish and Chin.

The singjay is now turning his attention towards a summer tour and the completion of his new album.

"I am working on the album right now, we're trying to get the right label or distribution deal so that the album can do well. A lot of mistakes were made with that last album, and that was a big album. So we want to straighten out the business side of the creative process, so that the album can get the necessary shelf space and do well in the marketplace," Vegas said.

debut album

Vegas has an uncanny knack of making hits. After jumping into the spotlight with Nike Air, his next single, Heads High, had a successful chart run in the UK and a number 69 peak on the Billboard R&B chart. In 1998, his debut album, Heads High was released, and reached number five on the US Reggae chart.

Vegas also won a MOBO for Best reggae artiste for the Heads High album. His single, Hot Gal Today in 2000, was a minor hit on the US R&B charts, peaking at number 66.

In 2001, he released Damn Right, featuring guest appearances from Shaggy. This album went to number two on the US Reggae chart. And 2004 saw the release of the Pull Up LP, and the title track scraped the bottom of the Billboard Top 200, peaking at number 98 (as well as number 68 on the R&B chart). In 2007, his Tek Weh Yuself song on the Dutch Pot rhythm was named one of the top 50 songs of the year by Vibe magazine.
