Cop shot in alleged shoot-out

The Old Harbour CIB is now investigating the circumstances under which a policeman was shot and injured and an illegal firearm seized during an alleged shoot-out in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, on Thursday.

According to police reports, about 9:30 p.m. a police team was on patrol in sections of Old Harbour Bay. Upon reaching Terminal Road, men were reportedly seen with high- powered weapons.

It is further reported that the armed men opened fire on seeing the police.

The police returned the fire and the men ran, leaving behind a .38 revolver with two 9mm cartridges.

One of the policemen was shot and injured and subsequently taken to hospital where he was treated and released.
