Alleged robbers still unidentified

Two alleged robbers who were killed by the Portmore police Wednesday night are still not identified, the police said.

One of them, believed to be in his early 30s, is of brown complexion, stout build, about 6 feet tall with plaited hair. He was dressed in white T-shirt, blue jeans pants and blue and white sneakers. The other man, about 26 years old, is of dark complexion, slim build, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with plaited hair. He was dressed in black shirt, black pants and black shoes.

The CCN's liaison officer for St Catherine South reported that about 10:30 p.m., a taxi driver was held up and robbed by a man armed with a gun at the Portmore Mall. Sometime after 11 p.m., the Bridgeport police responded to reports of the robbers travelling in a taxi along Port Henderson Road.

The vehicle with three men aboard was intercepted. The driver jumped from the moving vehicle which careened into a canal. The other men alighted from the car, firing at the police. They were shot during an ensuing exchange of gunfire and a Taurus .380 pistol, serial number KO 115475 with seven rounds of ammunition taken from one of the them. They were transported to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The Bridgeport police said that the driver of the taxi was reportedly being robbed by the men at the time of the interception.

The Bureau of Special Investigations is probing the incident.
