A man accused of using an eight-year-old child to gain entry to a shop and rob it was granted bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Kevon Davis appeared to answer charges of shop-breaking and larceny.

Slipper found

Allegations are that on December 17, 2008, the accused and an eight-year-old boy broke into the complainant's shop and stole $500 worth of goods and phone cards. The police, acting on information and a slipper that was left at the scene, found the child.

The child allegedly told the police that the accused broke a window in the shop, pushed him through and told him to open the door and let him inside, where he stole the items.

However, Davis' attorney claimed that the child had been held for breaking into the shop several times in the past and had blamed other persons in the community for it.

Davis is a 21-year-old photographer from Padmore district in St Ann.

Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown granted him $30,000 bail with surety and ordered that his fingerprints be taken.
