BSI probe bus driver shooting

The Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) has launched a probe into the shooting death of a bus driver by a policeman at Delacree Park, Kingston 11 yesterday morning.

The police corporal involved in the incident has been removed from front line duties pending a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Dead is Paul Brown, 47, of Rushworth Avenue, Kingston 11.

Reports are that shortly after 9:00 a.m., the Corporal was driving a Mazda Familia motor car along Spanish Town Road. On reaching a section of the roadway, he proceeded to pass a Toyota Coaster bus, registered PP 789Y driven by Brown, which had stopped at a bus stop.

While passing, Brown drove out onto the road and ran into the rear of the policeman's motor car. Instead of stopping, Brown proceeded along Spanish Town Road with the officer in pursuit. The bus was intercepted at Delacree Park and a verbal confrontation developed between both men. During the fracas Brown was shot and injured. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died while being treated.
