Clarendon man to do time for ganja

Errol Archer of a Clarendon address was fined $51,000 and sentenced to six months in prison after he tried to export just over three kilograms (7 lb) of ganja to Antigua.

Allegations in the case are that Archer tried to board a plane at the Norman Manley International Airport when the drug was discovered. He was subsequently charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export ganja.

Archer told Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that he tried to export the drug because he was going through a tough financial period in his life and was looking a way out. He was fined and sentenced nonetheless.
