Fires destroy homes out west

Two fires in the parishes of St James and Trelawny, respectively, caused close to $7m million worth of damage on Saturday.

In the first incident, a fire of unknown origin destroyed two board houses at Water Lane, Montego Bay, St James.

Police reports are that about 10 a.m. residents saw fire coming from a one-bedroom at the location. The blaze quickly spread to a two-bedroom house nearby. The fire brigade was summoned and two units from the Montego Bay Fire Department put out the fire.

Loss is estimated at $1.7m.

In the second incident in Trelawny, a fire destroyed a 14 -apartment house in the Thompson Town district. Reports in that incident are that about 2:15 pm., one of the occupants of the apartment returned home and found her room on fire.

The fire then quickly spread to the rest of the house. The police and fire brigade were summoned and one unit from the Falmouth Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

The loss is estimated at $5m.

None of the houses damaged in either of the incidents was insured. No one was injured in the incidents.

The Montego Bay and the the Warsop police in Trelawny are investigating the incidents, respectively.
