- Waterhouse general secretary Felix Porter Waterhouse general secretary, Felix Porter, is denying rumours that the club will be seriously active during the January transfer window of the Digicel Premier League (DPL), insisting they have enough quality players to take them to championship.
The 2005-2006 champions, currently sixth in the 12-team league, are on 22 points, 11 behind leaders Harbour View. Speculation has been rife that they could use the mid-season transfer window, which ends on January 31, to bolster their stock in order to seriously challenge for the title.
rumours
But Porter, dismissed these rumours as baseless and maintained that apart from a few youngsters, the club do not plan to sign any 'big name' players.
"We may look at couple youngsters with no names, but otherwise we are comfortable with the players we have and that they can get the job done," he said.
"What is happening is that the club has been improving over the past couple of games, and once we continue we should be able to break into the top four very soon. Once we do that we can then seriously position ourselves to challenge for the title," he said.
"Also, the club is going through a transitional phase, and as such we are looking at younger players for the long term, realising that couple of our stalwarts are getting old and we need to rebuild. But as it relates to big name players, the answer is no."
fairly good start
Waterhouse after a fairly good start to the league under then coach, Wayne Fairclough, who tendered his resignation in mid-November and was replaced by long-standing assistant Hugh "Bingy" Blair as interim-coach, has a 6-4-5 record after 15 games. Ahead of them in the standings are St George's (26), Boys' Town (27), Portmore and Tivoli (31). Arnett Gardens (15), Rivoli (14), Reno (13), Meadhaven and Village (12), and Sporting Central Academy (11) complete the standings.
A few other clubs however, including defending champions Portmore and Arnett, have signalled intentions to utilise the transfer window.
