LONDON, England (CMC)
Kevin Pietersen has threatened to quit as captain of the England team, over the non-selection of Michael Vaughan for the upcoming West Indies tour, the Daily Mail has reported.
According to the newspaper, Pietersen wanted the former England captain for the Caribbean tour, which starts later this month, but failed to secure the support of coach Peter Moores as selectors snubbed the badly-out-of-form Vaughan for the trip.
The report said the development was another blow to an already acrimonious relationship between Moores and Pietersen, who has called for crisis talks with England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke.
Captain's choice
"The captain wanted Vaughan alongside him for the four-Test tour of the West Indies starting this month," the Mail said.
"But the selectors, led by Moores, overruled Pietersen and retained Ian Bell and Owais Shah in the squad, to the fury of the captain who sees this as the final straw in a relationship with the coach that has been fractious at best since he took over.
"Pietersen will tell Clarke that either Moores goes or he does."
Pietersen was appointed to the top spot in August after Vaughan quit as Test captain and took a break from the game following a dismal run with the bat, and England's loss to South Africa in a four-Test series.
Vaughan failed to find form for County club Yorkshire and was not a part of the England squad, which toured India last month.
There was speculation he would get a recall for the Caribbean tour, but was not part of the 16-man Test squad announced on Monday.
