A man who has been accused of assaulting a woman after she refused his sexual advances will welcome the new year in jail and will stay there until his next court date on January 15.
Damion Osbourne, 25, of a East Road, Kingston 12 address, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to answer to charges of assaulting a female and assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court was told that on December 20, the complainant went to a shop in the community where she was approached by the accused. It is alleged that he held on to her and made sexual demands. When she refused, he choked her and hit her in the face, causing bruising and swelling.
The court was further informed by the investigating officer that since the accused man's detention, the complainant had received threats from his friends. It was also alleged that the accused himself had sent threats from behind bars. It was also revealed that Osbourne was also charged with illegal possession of ammunition in another matter.
An attorney representing the accused man attempted to make a bail application, but this was denied after the court was told that the complainant was living in fear. The attorney, however, told Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that the allegations were false and they resulted from an argument with a third party.
