Accused board thief charged

A man who was caught on Monday morning with a portion of plyboard that he could not account for, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with unlawful possession of property is Robert Irvine.

The court was told that shortly after 3 a.m. on the day in question, Irvine was seen riding a bicycle along a roadway with the plyboard on his head. He was stopped by the police and questioned, but reportedly failed to provide them with satisfactory answers.

When he appeared in court, however, Irvine said he did not steal the items and was on his way home from work as a street cleaner. He said he was going to use the items to fix a house.

The matter is to be mentioned again today.
