Parents plead for safe return of newborn

The parents of a six-week-old child who was stolen from the mother's home on Monday night are pleading for her safe return.

The child, Kailee Walker, was taken by an unidentified woman from the house in Denham Town, west Kingston. "I would like to let her know, please, if she could carry it back or let someone else take it or take it to a police and they can get in touch with me," Simone Samuda, the child's mother said.

Samuda said she noticed the woman going up the street and shortly afterwards she returned asking her for some water. She gave her the water and the woman told her that she just had a baby and that she was in Denham Town to visit a woman who had a baby, but lost it.

The woman left and returned to speak with Samuda for a while before claiming she was leaving for home in Portmore, St Catherine.

About 7 p.m., Samuda was folding clothes when the woman came and asked her about how she could get a bus to Portmore and then said her babyfather was coming to collect her and she was going to wait on him.

While they were there, Samuda's mother, who lived nearby and had the child, brought her to the house, telling Samuda, she needed to breastfeed the child.

Woman volunteered

Immediately the woman volunteered to feed the baby using a bottle, so that Samuda could complete her chores. She agreed and the woman fed Kailee in her presence before stepping outside with her, leaving Samuda and her mother in the house. Samuda's mother turned to warn her that the woman might try to steal the baby and when they went outside, the woman and the baby were missing.

Since then, the family has been worrying about the fate of the newborn. Samuda describes the woman as short, medium build and was wearing a ponytail hairstyle, a white blouse, shoes and a blue jeans pants. The family has also made a report to the Denham Town police, who are investigating, and has also been distributing flyers of the missing child.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of the child are asked to contact the police at 119, the Denham Town police or the nearest police station.
