Breese to step down from JCA job

Anthony Foster, STAR Writer

Brian Breese ... has resigned as Jamaica Cricket Association's cricket operation officer.

Brian Breese, Jamaica Cricket Association's (JCA) cricket operation officer (COO), has handed in his resignation.

He is expected, however, to remain in the post for another three months.

Breese, who started out with the JCA as chief executive officer (CEO) in 2001, said he is no longer enjoying his work at the cricket board.

It was rumoured when Paul Campbell defeated Courtney Walsh for the presidency of the JCA in October, Breese, who was appointed COO three years ago, would not see eye to eye with the new president.

When contacted yesterday, Breese confirmed that he had resigned.

"I just put in my (resignation) letter," he said.

"I don't enjoy working there as I use to, and I am not getting the same level of satisfaction I used to get," added Breese, who left the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) as competition's officer for the JCA.

Driving force

Breese, who worked at Carib Cement as sports administrator and was the driving force behind the all island primary and All-Age schools cricket competitions, said he has to give three months notice, but would not mind if he could leave now.

The former principal of Green Island Secondary in Hanover, also served as acting secretary and assistant secretary at the JCA.

Campbell, president of the JCA, confirmed Breese's resignation letter, which was presented to him on December 23.

"We thanked Mr Breese for his service and we just have to make arrangements to continue the work he has started," Campbell said of the former player and secretary at the Hanover and Westmoreland Cricket associations.

Asked if a new COO will be appointed, Campbell replied: "We are currently in a restructuring phase, given the creation of the technical unit.

"Yes, we will continue to have a cricket operation unit, but the restructuring is in progress and we will decide as soon as possible what the functions and positions will be."

Courtney Francis, who serves as assistant COO, could be promoted to the post.

Campbell, during his campaign for presidency, had said a CEO should be in place by January.
