H View face tough Rivoli

FIVE of the top six Digicel Premier League sides hit the road tomorrow afternoon for the final fixtures of 2008, all crucial match-ups, as teams look to improve their positions behind four-point leaders Harbour View ahead of the new year.

Leaders Harbour View, who extended their lead over Tivoli Gardens after edging Meadhaven 1-0 at home last week, travel to Rivoli for a 4 p.m. match-up against the Spanish Town men, who jumped from last to eighth-place with a 2-0 win at Sporting Central.

Tivoli, who were held 0-0 at home by St Georges last week, are at the Elliston Wakeland Centre, playing a wounded but dangerous Village, who slipped from eighth to next-to-last after their 2-1 loss at Portmore.

Third-place Boys' Town on 27 points, one off Tivoli after last week's 3-1 win over Reno, will make the dreaded trip to face St Georges (23) at Lynch Park, hoping to be the first team to leave Portland with maximum points this season.

Meanwhile, fourth-place defending champions Portmore, two off Boys' Town with 25 points, travel to Frome against seventh-place Reno, who were outclassed at Collie Smith Drive last week, but are yet to lose at home this season.

big grudge match

Sixth-place Waterhouse travel to Constant Spring to play Meadhaven, a team stacked with former Waterhouse players in what should be a big grudge match.

Meanwhile, ninth-place Arnett Gardens, rescued by Fabian Davis' 70th-minute equaliser at Waterhouse last week, will play last-place Sporting Central at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex, starting at 4 p.m.

Although Harbour View finally shook clear of Tivoli at the top of the standings last Sunday, the leaders are no odds on favourites against Rivoli, who have only lost once at the Prison Oval this season, 1-0 to Waterhouse.

pull off upset

Harbour View won their first round-match up 1-0 at Compound but Rivoli at home, spurred on by a partisan crowd, could pull of an upset if they hold their nerves in defence against the likes of Kavin Bryan, Rafeik Thomas and Lovel Palmer.

Rivoli's Devon Hodges, whose double took out Sporting Central at Brancourt last week, loves the ball at his feet, is capable of untangling any defence and carry the hopes of his team against the leaders.

With Village's form woeful, losing their last four games, a Tivoli win at Elliston Wakeland Centre could be a given.

Tivoli have improved tremendously on the road and probably have the easiest assignment of the top teams playing away, bad news for Village, who are next-to-last on goal-difference with 12 points.

Boys' Town, on paper, with George Vernal, Michael Campbell and Denzil Watson, are far more attacking, but the Lynch Park factor cannot be discounted against St Georges.

Third-place Boy's Town edged St Georges 2-1 at Collie Smith Drive in the first round, but Lynch Park is hallowed ground for the Portlanders, who can do no wrong at home, making them spoilers in waiting.

Waterhouse must get the nod over Meadhaven at Constant Spring, having more attacking options over the homesters, who are driven by Keammar Daley and Weston Forrest.

Arnett at home should keep their heads above relegation with a home win over struggling Sporting Central, who are yet to win a match on the road this season.
