Teacher on fraud charges granted bail

A 62-year-old teacher from a Kingston high school was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for allegedly lying about his assets to get a loan.

Roy Williams appeared to answer charges of forgery, uttering forged documents and obtaining money by false documents.

Allegations are that Williams signed documents making a false declaration that he had owned a certain number of appliances in order to get a loan of $60,000 from the agency. The fraud was later detected and he was arrested and charged.

The crown told Resident Magistrate Valerie Edwards that the accused was before the court on another charge and had received bail of $50,000 for that matter. However, RM Edwards granted him $10,000 bail on this matter. A mention date of February 24 was set.
