A man accused of withdrawing more than $100,000 from a bank account he previously owned, but which was subsequently given to a new customer, was recently arrested and charged.
Charged with simple larceny is Michael Thompson o/c Michael Osbourne, 37, a cabinet maker from Lincoln Road, Kingston 5.
The allegations are that Thompson opened an account with a financial institution institution in May 1993. He opened the account with $3800. Over the next four months, money was withdrawn from the account and then all activity ceased, causing the account to become dormant. The bank assigned the account to another customer. The new customer made regular lodgements to the account.
In January 2008, Thompson updated the account with his bank book, by adding $1000 and discovered that there was $135,391 in the account, which he, or anyone on his behalf, did lodge.
It is alleged that between July 18 and November, the accused allegedly went to the bank and made several withdrawals from the account.
On December 16, Thompson was held at the bank by security personnel and handed over to the police after withdrawing $32,0000 from the account.
He is to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court soon.
