On December 26, theatre vet Pablo Hoilett, will christen St Andrew's newest entertainment spot, the Theatre Place, directing Caught in the Net - a two-hour- long story about a man with two families whose children discover their filial connection through the Internet.
The offering will feature the talents of Calvin Morris, Paul Skeen, Peter Heslop, Claudette Pious, Sherando Ferril, Melward Morris, Camille Hutchinson, Kadeem Wilson and Michelle London.
Audiences can enjoy
The Theatre Place, which is located on Haining Road, the outskirts of New Kingston, is the brainchild of Hoilett, who, along with an architect and structural engineer, is transforming a warehouse into a facility for homegrown as well as overseas audiences.
"We wanted to create the best possible place that was spacious and comfortable, something that both local and international audiences can enjoy," explained Hoilett.
Sufficient parking
The space and comfort he refers to is a 300-seat facility complete with cinema-styled cushioned seats. The location is another plus, as being on the cusp of the busy New Kingston thoroughfare is enough to attract theatre buffs with its lack of traffic and sufficient parking, especially for a midweek production.
The team, which has been working since June this year, will complete a plan that is on par with international safety standards and a roof design that accommodates superior acoustic features ahead of the Boxing Day opening of the production.
Dramatic production
But Hoilett's vision for the facility is more than just the staging of dramatic production, it also encompasses hosting of a variety of events.
"We are filling a need for a multi-purpose space that can be used for a range of wholesome family entertainment, from your church concert to your product launch, award show to your dance and music recital. The Theatre Place is just the space!"
