Teen held on gun charge

A 17-year-old youth is now in police custody, charged with breaches of the Firearms Act after he was held with an illegal firearm at Angels Haven, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Saturday evening.

He has since been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Reports are that about 7:30 p.m., the police were conducting spot checks on the Angels main road. They signalled the driver of a grey Nissan Pulsar motor car to stop, but he disobeyed and the lawmen gave chase.

The vehicle subsequently crashed into a barrier at Angels Estate where three men ran from the car. They were chased and Dixon was held. He was searched and a Clamma 9mm pistol, serial number erased, with six cartridges was found in his possession.

He was subsequently arrested and charged and is scheduled to answer to the charges in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, January 6.

The Spanish Town CIB is investigating.
