Vybz Kartel - File
At 2:50 a.m.when the police signalled Code Red selector Blade to play the last track, patrons at Barcode, which was held at The Pantry on Saturday night, thought it was the end of the party.
At that point, Blade asked the people from which artiste's collection they wanted to hear the last song. The people chose Vybz Kartel and his hit Broad Daylight followed.
However, after a very brief discussion with the promoters, an
additional 30 minutes was granted by the police.
Before the interruption, Blade was on the attack during his second stint, playing some songs from the 1990s. "Dem song yah a fi di people dem weh born in the '80s. Di 14 and 15 year old dem gone home now," he said.
'Dagga' segment
Even earlier, Coppershot played wining songs that had the entire crowd in a frenzy. The raw 'dagga' segment took place long before 2 a.m., with Rampin Shop by Vybz Kartel and Spice moving the crowd. Even Stephen McGregor's hot Day Rave rhythm was played early.
It was ironic that there were mostly teenagers at the drink-inclusive party. Some seemed intoxicated, while others puffed on their cigarettes and cigars.
The venue was difficult to move through or even dance in. Maybe the bartenders were trying to help prevent the spill of liquor, as the cups were only half full. To make matters worse, the bar ran out of water and some drink mixes. Some people were pushing through the crowd; making the party seem even more confusing in what appeared to be a 'teen fête'.
Kaotic played a short energetic set while Zip Jock Johnny Kool closed the party.
