Cumberland FC are U-13 champs

anthony minott photos - Leander Marshall (right), president of the Portmore Football League, hands over the championship trophy to Cumberland after their 3-0 win over Passagefort United in the final of an U-13 football rally at the Passagefort playing field on Sunday.

Cumberland FC took home the Leander Marshall trophy after outclassing Passagefort United 3-0 in the final of an U-13 one-day football rally at the Passagefort playing field on Saturday.

Cleon Peasley (28th), Rayon Swire (20th) and Romaine Wright (30th) scored for the winners all in extra time. The teams were locked 0-0 after regulation time.

Cumberland edged Wanderers 1-0 in one semi-final, while Passagefort eliminated Portsmouth with a similar scoreline in the other.

Eight teams, Independence City, Wanderers, Portsmouth, Cumberland, Passagefort United, Caymanas Gardens, Rodwood and Daytona took part in the competition which began at 9 a.m.

The rally was introduced by Leander Marshall, president of the Portmore Football League, to launch the U-13 League which will commence next year summer. Linford Jones, long-standing youth coach, started the U-13 League some years ago. But ill-health forced him away from the game he loves. He is currently recuperating at home.
