'Termite' seeks to school Noel Blagrove

Orville Clarke, Portmore Star writer

Portmore's Cue Plus and Sunil 'Termite' Kissendal also from the Sunshine City are on course to win the team and singles titles, respectively, in the Kingston Beer/Pool Tables and Billiards Supplies Ultimate all-island pool tournament which ends this weekend at Indigo Bar and Brasserie, 120a Constant Spring Road.

Kissendal, who is so far unbeaten in the tournament, will meet another unbeaten player in Noel 'School' Blagrove from Big Man Corner in MoBay in tomorrow's best of seven final for the $75,000 prize and trophy.

razor sharp

Both players, who two years ago had the distinction of winning a game against world number one-ranked female player Allison Fisher on her visit to Jamaica, have looked razor sharp around the tables, especially the youthful Blagrove.

He was quite impressive in his semi-final match against former number one Roy Letts, winning 3-0. He displayed spot-on accuracy, good ball positioning not to mention great self confidence. Whether he can derail the more experienced Kissendal is left to be seen.

Both players have met four times previously, with Kissendal winning three times.

Kissendal came from a game down to beat Marvin Grey from Hot Shots 3-1 in the first semi-final, while last Saturday he beat the highly touted Ewart Hall 3-1 in the tournament's first big clash.

peaking at the right time

"While I'll concede that Blagrove is playing brilliantly, this final is going to test his mettle under pressure. He's yet to meet a player who is striking the ball as good as I and he will not have it so easy", said Kissendal.

"I'm peaking at the right time and have every confidence in my ability to win this tournament," he added.

Meanwhile, the team final for a whopping $200,000 will be played today and tomorrow at Indigo, starting at 5 p.m.

In the first quarter-finals, Portmore's Cue Plus with Roy Letts at the helm will oppose Hot Shots, while the unbeaten Hotta Shots take on Georges from May Pen on an adjacent table.

The second set of quarter-finals will see Eagle Eyes from St Mary up against Island Delight from Linstead, along with the big MoBay derby between Kendan and Big Man Corner with Blagrove at the helm.

The presentation of trophies and prizes will take place on Monday, December 22, at Indigo Bar.
