Cop arrested for driving police vehicle

Spanish Town

A policeman charged with driving away in a motor vehicle without the owner's consent was granted bail on Wednesday.

Constable Glenford Steel of the Above Rocks Police Station, in St Catherine, was given $100,000 bail in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court by Senior Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar.

It is alleged that on November 13, Steel was on guard duty, when he drove away with the Suzuki Vitara service vehicle. The vehicle later crashed along Valdez Road in Homestead.

It is an offence for police personnel not trained and designated to drive service vehicles to do so.

The constable, who was represented by attorney-at-law Vinnette Grant, return to court on February 2.
