Men deny owning coke found in car

Three men who were seen in a vehicle that was found appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. The car was searched at the Kingston Wharves.

Facing charges of possession, dealing in, taking steps to import cocaine and trafficking cocaine are Ashley Smith, Roger Smith and Dwayne Brown.

The court was told that Brown and Ashley Smith were seen in the car, which belongs to the Kingston Wharves, when the vehicle was searched. The contraband was found hidden behind the front seats. Further investigations led to Roger Smith, a supervisor at the company, who reportedly gave the car to the men.

A lawyer representing Roger Smith, however, told the court that the men had earlier used the vehicle to move about the company. He said it had been left unattended at one point and that it was when Ashley Smith and Brown were attempting to leave the compound to go for lunch that the car was searched and the cocaine found. He said neither of the men knew how the substance got into the car.

The matter is to be mentioned again on February 5.
