Phone thief gets january date

Mark Beckford, from downtown Kingston, is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on January 9 when he will be tried for larceny from the person.

Allegation in the case against the accused is that the complainant was travelling in a taxi along West Street, downtown Kingston, when the accused, who was on foot, grabbed her cellphone and ran.

Held on to the accused

The complainant then alighted from the vehicle and raised an alarm. She gave chase and subsequently held on to the accused with the assistance of passers-by.

Beckford was then turned over to the police and charged for the offence.
