Men detained by cops in Old Captial

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Spanish Town

Police in Spanish Town detained several men from the Old Capital on Tuesday.

The men were taken from several communities surrounding Spanish Town, including French Street, Burke Road and other areas. The police told The Star that the aim of the exercise was to keep the lid on crime in the Old Capital and it was necessary for the lawmen to step up their efforts, especially during the festive season.

The Star observed several relatives of persons who were detained at the Spanish Town Police Station crowding the precinct, enquiring about their loved ones.

"I don't know what happen, but them have mi son down here and that is the reason why I am here for over one hour now, trying to get him out because him is not a wrongdoer," said Margaret as she waited at the station.

Several business interests have praised the pro-active measures taken by the police. They say that persons involved in criminal acts must not feel comfortable and they hope that the lawmen's presence on the street will be ongoing.
