Criminality to be eradicated in Spanish Town

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Spanish Town

Head of the St Catherine North Police, Superintendent Assan Thompson, has said extortion, intimidation and other acts of criminality will be eradicated in Spanish Town.

Thompson said areas such as the terminus are being manned on a 24-hour basis by the police, who will arrest and charge anyone who flouts the law.

Hundred raids

He added that more than a hundred raids conducted in the terminus had resulted in 78 persons being detained, 13 of whom were charged with various crimes.

In addition, the superintendent, who led a search party in the Gravel Heights area on Tuesday, after gunmen gave orders for residents to move out, claimed that the police would not stop until they got the persons who are causing problems in the area.

For almost three hours, police and soldiers combed the hilly community in search of men who they claim are responsible for the upsurge of violence in the area.
