Wait for carnival, Machel Montano/ Alaine song won't buss 'Tonight'

( L - R ) Alaine, Machel Montano - File

In this weekly Muss Buss Caan Buss song review feature, three musical minds will analyse each song and will grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal. Songs that make the grade will be dubbed 'Muss Buss', while songs that flop they will be dumped in the 'Caan Buss' bin.

The three reviewers welcome feedback from the artistes and the public about the column. Send your comments to bussdem@hotmail.com or mail in your songs to 'Muss Buss' at the Gleaner Company, 7 North Street, Kingston. This week the muss buss/caan buss team will be reviewing Alaine and Machel Montano's Tonight.

Lady Boo: "Mi nuh like it, mi nuh like it at all." King Kong: "Is Don do it?"

Witch: "Yup."

Lady Boo: "It too soca."

Witch: "Wha yuh expect Machel to do? Dancehall? Mi surprised by di combo still. Mi neva see Alaine as a soca princess at all."

Lady Boo: "Mi nah feel sumting 'bout it still. Him couldn't do dancehall then."

Witch: "Mi nuh mind it. By di time carnival come 'round people will rock to it. As a soca song it nuh bad."

King Kong: "Don shoulda use more back-up vocals for Alaine part, her voice sound empty. Double up her voice or sumting. Di riddim alrite for a soca riddim."

Lady Boo: "Her voice really low. It need more power to it. It come in like a mosquito in di riddim still. But when she start speed up, it sound more soca-ish and more believable. It nuh sound as R&B at that point."

Witch: "Well, mi love Machel still. 'Im always have a vibe, and Alaine a try new tings which is always good. Mi nuh know 'bout stealing Busy line 'tip tip tip tip pon yuh toes.'"

King Kong: "Mi worse don't know 'bout dat. Mi worried."

Lady Boo: "Di part mi love in di song is when she deejay rather than sing."

King Kong: "Dis song is skippable for me still. It isn't someting I'd rush to download from Limewire."

Lady Boo: "Maybe next year when it's really soca time yuh see people a jump up and down to it."

King Kong: "Soca people jump up to anyting, dem just need something to wine to. It don't have to mek sense." Witch: "Well, Don is showing his versatility. Doing a soca song, at least he trying new tings. Not many Jamaican producers really tek on soca."

Lady Boo: "Mi haffi give him props for dat, him step out of di box."

King Kong: "Yeah di riddim nuh bad. Buss or not?"

Lady Boo: "Well, it will buss next year during soca time, but I don't see it a catch on just yet."

Witch: "As a soca song, yeah it deh deh. When di liquor start lick, people dem will like it. It's really not that bad for what it is - a soca song. The two aren't bad together either."

King Kong: "It buss for me when Don mix it ova, make Alaine sound louder. It just nuh buss for me right now."
