Dead man identified as suspect in murder of former JUTC boss

A man, who was shot dead by police at the Sagicor Shopping Centre in Spanish Town on December 1, has been positively identified as one of the main suspects in the murder of former JUTC boss, Douglas Chambers.

The late head of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company was murdered on June 27 at the company's Spanish Town depot, shortly after he stepped out of a meeting.

Positively identified

Kahero Worrell, alias 'Zero' and 'Kero', has been positively identified by two witnesses as the person fatally shot by the police during a shoot-out at the shopping centre on Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Monday, December 1, 2008.

Worrell was named as one of the main suspects in Chambers' murder. Other persons of interest being sought by the police are Andre 'Garth' Bryan and Worrell 'Bruckie' Simpson.

Weapon taken from him

The Constabulary Communication Network reported December 1, that about 12:30 p.m., Worrell was shot dead and a weapon taken from him after he had reportedly killed a man in the plaza.

It was alleged that Worrell killed the man as he was conducting business in a photo shop. It is said that he and his cronies were leaving the building when they were met by a police party responding to reports of shooting in the plaza.

The men opened fire at the police, who did likewise. They ran off towards the nearby railway and the police chased them. During another shoot-out, Worrell's body was found. A Glock 40 pistol was reportedly taken from him.

He was pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital and later identified as the man behind the shooting at the plaza.
